Streets of Hong Kong

Since 2016, Fung Ming Sum has created a series of paintings, named “Hong Kong Street", to reflect our suppressed yet chaotic society with brushstrokes and colours.

The artist believes, visual forms of artworks can highlight the individuality of creators, and response to the society.  After going through the "Umbrella Movement" in 2015, the artist thinks that Hong Kong is neither peaceful nor stable, but floating, highly changeable and a bit sorrowful.  While feeling the chaos from the reality, in the paintings, the artist would like to capture such atmospheres, and strike a balance in the pictorial surfaces with visual elements, signifying her hopes for bringing stability to our city.
